Blade Runner 2049

10 octubre, 2017

Blade Runner 2049 leads us back to 1982, to the Ridley Scott’s movie that changed the world of Science Fiction, based on characters from the novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ by Philip K. Dick. A world where biotechnology is already very advanced and the company Tyrell Corporation has devised a type of state-of-the-art android called ‘Replicants’ or ‘Skin-jobs’ in slang of the epoch, here on the Earth, and above all in the colonies where they are used as slave workforce.

They can’t live for more than four years, and sometimes, when they don’t obey, they are ‘retired’ by a so-called ‘Blade Runner’. Yes, the Nexus 6 replicants are, on occasions, faulty, and they must be ‘retired’ before they are able to damage any human being.

Nexus 6 replicants commence searching their creator to try to prolong their life expectancy or even override the condition that makes them die, yet they fail, they kill every bioengineer and finally die.

Only outcasts or the faulty humans live on Earth, in those times, most people live in the outer world, in the colonies, exploiting ‘replicants’, the future is outside the Earth. But the romance between an human and an android can’t be discarded. Humans are quite lonely here on Earth and, sometimes, they have to resort to the ‘replicants’ to soothe their thirst for sex and affection.

Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner, is no longer interested in ‘retire’ replicants, he falls in love with one of them and he just want to flee the city and commence a new life away from all his past. We never knew, during the movie, if Deckard was or wasn’t another replicant, this point is only unveiled subtly during Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve, and Ridley Scott as an executive producer.

Blade Runner 2049 like the prequel is visually stunning, with impressive visual effects and an outstanding atmosphere, however, the sequel can’t manage to equal the soundtrack of the original film by Vangelis.

In the sequel, the Wallace Corporation takes over Tyrell and retakes the design task of new groundbreaking androids that aren’t so faulty. But the company owner wants to go too away by too nasty means.

In Blade Runner 2049 are quite important the replicants’ memories, sometimes they are artificially designed and sometimes they are true memories which are implanted.

To finish, I must say that the interpretation of Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford repeating the role of Deckard is very good, like the rest of the cast. I do recommend this film without any reservation, it will be worth even buying the DVD or Blue-ray in the future.
